Sassafras Ridge Basketry is Chef Becky’s mother’s hand woven basket business. Weaver, Laurie Ross, creates baskets made from honeysuckle vines harvested from the woods of Appalachia. Honeysuckle is an invasive species to our region. By sustainably harvesting the vine to weave baskets, she is also improving the ecosystem for native plant and animal species.
Sassafras Ridge Baskets are perfect for fruit baskets, garden baskets, flower girl baskets, plant holders, or decor in any room of your home.
Laurie is working on a new line of house plant trellises, woven from honeysuckle. Stay tuned for those on our site soon.
Classes are taught by Becky’s Grandmother, Carol Ross, a long time reed basket weaver. This is what she has to say about them:
“Using round rattan reed , students will complete a full size basket. Students will learn basic structure, shaping and pattern development. This is an excellent stand alone class but can also be the introduction to an extensive basketry program.”
All classes are taught at Carol’s home in Athens, OH, and are 3-4 hours long. She has great flexibility with scheduling and can teach most days and evenings. She will schedule with you upon purchase of the class.
