Pork & Pickles presents a cooking day camp just for kids! Ages 11-14 years old. We will accept 15 kids, and will hold the camp at the Della Zona space at 270 E. State St in Athens, Ohio. Classes will run from 12:30 to 5:30 daily.
Hands on Skills will include, but not be limited to:
knife skills and safety
sauce and dressing making
grain cookery and identification
vegetable cookery and identification
meat cookery and safe handling
We will also learn about farming techniques, eating seasonally and locally, table etiquette, chefs who have changed the landscape of food in America, and how we can make a big difference in the future of food and agriculture through ethical eating practices.
The camp will commence with the children hosting a reception of heavy appetizers for the parents, which will showcase all the skills they've gained during the week. The reception will be from 6:30-7:30p on the last day of camp.
The cost is $250 per child, which includes all instruction, materials, and a chef knife for each child to keep. Need-based scholarships are available. Contact Becky at porknpickles@ gmail.com to sign up, or gather more details.
